Racism in a “Post-Racist” America.

I thought with the election of Barack Obama that racism in America had officially ended.  Why is it then, after this historic election of America’s first non-white president, that cries of racism are more prevalent than ever before?

President Barack Obama

President Barack Obama

I use the term “non-white” sarcastically to illustrate the absurd practice of political correctness.  I know our President is a black man.  Though if you want to get technical, he is only half black.  Is it alright to call him black or am I being racist?  The “proper” or “politically correct” term used to refer to a person of color has changed so many times throughout the years that simple minded folk such as myself can get confused.  Oh my, I may have done it again in that last sentence by referring to him as a “person of color.”  Oh by all means if I have offended any of my readers I do apologize.

The left is the supposed champion of the minority.  Blacks and Latinos in particular vote for left leaning candidates in far superior numbers.  It is astounding that these same minorities do not know the history of the party they overwhelmingly support.

Let us start with a recent history lesson.  Robert Carlyle Byrd is the senior senator from the state of West Virginia.  He is a member of the Democratic party and has been a member of the senate since January 3, 1959.  He also joined the Ku Klux Klan in 1942 and held positions as Kleagle (or recruiter) and Exalted Cyclops.  He is also quoted as saying in a letter to then Sen. Theodore Bilbo (D-MS) in 1944:

“I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side.. Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen of the wilds.”

To his credit, Senator Byrd has apologized repeatedly for his involvement with the Ku Klux Klan, and all seems forgiven.  I don’t think a conservative would be given the same courtesy.

Then of course we have the Civil Rights Act of 1964.  Would you believe it almost didn’t come about because of the actions of a few Democrat legislators?  The bill was reported out of the Judiciary Committee in November 1963, and referred to the Rules Committee, whose chairman, Howard W. Smith, a Democrat from Virginia, indicated his intention to keep the bill bottled up indefinitely.  The bill would was referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Senator James Eastland, Democrat from Mississippi. Under Eastland’s care, it seemed impossible that the bill would reach the Senate floor.

The bill came before the full Senate for debate on March 30, 1964 and the “Southern Bloc” of southern Senators led by Richard Russell, Democrat from Georgia launched a filibuster to prevent its passage. Said Russell:

“We will resist to the bitter end any measure or any movement which would have a tendency to bring about social equality and intermingling and amalgamation of the races in our (Southern) states.”

On the morning of June 10, 1964, Senator Robert Byrd (Democrat-W.Va.) completed an address that he had begun 14 hours and 13 minutes earlier opposing the legislation.  Wow, our racist little friend gets around.  Isn’t it ironic that it was the Republican party that saved the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and yet many blacks regard conservatives as racist.  I don’t even need to mention President Abraham Lincoln (Hmmm…..that name rings a bell..) was a Republican.  Of course the only thing he did was free the slaves and hold the union together, not at all important actions.

President Abraham Lincoln

President Abraham Lincoln

Flash forward to today, and the liberal’s new version of racism.  If you don’t agree with President Barack Obama you are a racist.  There are actual people in congress, and otherwise that believe this.  Rep. Joe Wilson (Republican – S.C.) recently blurted out “You lie.” during an Obama speech on Health Care reform.  Of course he did this because he disagreed with something the president said, not because he is racist.  Conservatives of course heard him yell, “You lie.”  But unfortunately liberals translated this as, “Oh my hell I can’t believe we have a black president!”  Even ex-president Jimmy Carter has stated that he believes Wilson’s outburst was based on racism.

The media portrays conservatives as racists as much as they can.   The tax protests that occurred on April 15th, according to MSNBC and Hollywood loud mouth Janeane Garofolo were not protesting the fact that government is spending too much money.  Nope, according to them we were protesting the fact that we have a black president.  The large March on Washington that occurred on Sept. 12th, was once again not in protest to government largess, but in protest of our black president.  So, according to the mainstream media I am a racist for not agreeing with this president.  The problem with that conclusion is that I also did not agree with everything the last president did, and the one before that.  My memory may be poor, but I believe they were both white guys.

Also in a liberal’s mind, only white people can be racist.  One largely circulated definition is as follows: Racism = Prejudice + Power.  Simply stated it means, black people can’t be racist because they didn’t have the power to make laws or set policy.  Now lest they forget, our President is a black man.  Their poor excuse, no longer applies.  Yes people, anybody can be a racist.

APTOPIX MTV Video Music Awards ShowWhat about Kanye West’s recent rant during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the VMA awards.  Do I believe Kanye West, a black man, was racist towards Taylor swift, a white woman?  What about Serena Williams losing her temper during a tennis match and yelling at a line judge?  Was Serena, a black woman, racist toward the line judge, a white woman?  I don’t think either of these are examples of racism, I just think both individuals used poor judgement.  I do wonder what the left would think though if the roles were reversed.newsweekcoverbabyracist

A recent article in Newsweek actually asked the question, ‘Is Your Baby Racist?’  on the cover of the magazine there was of course a white baby.

At the Children’s Research Lab at the University of Texas — Birgitte Vittrup attempted to measure how effective propaganda is at instilling multiculturalism ideology in small children. She found that despite parents’ progressive intentions and the homogenous political correctness of everything they see on TV, children 5 to 7 years old tended to consider blacks but not whites to be “mean.”  Another researcher discovered that white kids are racist at six months old. The article includes this gem of a quote:

It’s horrifying to imagine kids being “proud to be white.”[1]

Well there you have it folks, according to Newsweek, racism is inborn.  If you are a racist, you can’t help it!

Most people are smart enough to know that racism is not inborn, it comes about from a series of life experiences.  Many people do not encounter “multiculturalism” at a young age.  Some people are raised in very homogenous areas.  Some people learn racism from family, some from friends, others from television, etc.  Unfortunately many use racism as an unfounded charge in accusation of those of different opinions.

I have cited examples of liberal racist hypocrisy in this article.  But I also believe that there are racists liberals and conservatives.  I also know that you don’t have to be white to be racist.  There are unfortunately racists of every race and color. In this, the “Post-Racist” America it is usually those that cry racism that are the real racists.

Man Wins 500 Billion Lottery, Buys 3 Chicken Eggs, Claims Poverty!

Could it become just worthless paper

Could it become just worthless paper?

The headline may be shocking, but it is an extreme example of Hyper-inflation.  You may think that something like that couldn’t happen here, but you’d be wrong.  The headline cites an example of exactly what happened in Zimbabwe, due to government interference with the economy, and the issuance of currency from a central bank.

The inflation in Zimbabwe hit a record 231 million percent.  Yes you read that right, not 231% but 231,000,000 percent.  How, do you ask could inflation get so out of control?  The answer is simple.  The government issued currency they couldn’t back with hard assets (gold).  The price in the headline is actually correct.  It would take 500,000,000,000 Zimbabwen Dollars do buy 3 chicken eggs.

The gold standard was abandoned by the United States years ago in favor of what is termed  “Fiat Currency.”  The term Fiat derives from the Latin meaning “let it be done.”  Translated into simple english it means: screw you, we print it, you use it.  The abandonment of the gold standard means the government issues as much currency as they feel is needed, leading to periods of inflation, and even hyper-inflation.  Hyper-inflation is defined as inflation that exceeds 50% in a month.  Imagine going to the grocery market one month and paying $100 for your purchase.  When you return next month to do your regular shopping, the bill would be at least $150 dollars for the same items.  For those of you that work, did you recieve a 50% raise last month to cover the increased costs?  I didn’t think so.

At the beginning of 2009 congress passed a stimulus bill that approached 1 trillion dollars in initial cost, and much more in projected cost over the lifetime of the bill.  Let’s break that down.  The average U.S. household earns $27,600 a year according to 2009 estimates, or about $13.26 per hour.  Now imagine you just received your credit card statement and you alone were responsible for a 1 trillion dollar balance.  It would take you 36,231,885 years to pay off (not including interest).  Inflation also hits your bank accounts.  Imagine again that you have $10,000 dollars in savings, and inflation hits 20%.  Well your savings is now worth about 20% less, or $8000 dollars.  You didn’t do anything, and you lost $2000 dollars.  Makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside doesn’t it.

Okay, lets conceptualize high inflation, or hyper-inflation kicks in, what do we do now?  The scary secret that the government doesn’t want you to know about, is the only way to reign in inflation is through interest rates.  Interest is the way the government pulls money out of the market.  Sound familiar?  Sounds like a “hidden” tax to me.  Why don’t banks refer to it as a loan tax when we borrow money?  Its all semantics, a case study in psychological subversion, change the language from something people abhor, and change it to something less disdainable.

In order to overcome the high inflation that is coming, the banks have to raise interest rates.  I believe when hyper-inflation finally hits not only will we feel the pinch in our pocketbooks in the form of higher prices, but those that are in debt will see the double whammy of extremely high interest rates.  Home loans with an APR of over 20% may not be uncommon, and I loathe to even mention what your credit card rates will be.  My advice: get out of debt now, and lock in low interest rates (if possible) now!

Unfortunately as the United States economic woes continue the U.S. dollar has gone from international currency of choice and a worldwide symbol of US global hegemony, to a widely shunned currency.  The dollar has become so entrenched many experts believe its decline may already be irreversible.  China is advocating replacing the dollar with a more “stable” currency (their own).  If you think we have problems now, wait till you see when the world abandons the dollar, and all of our foreign held debt becomes due.  All of those dollars coming home to roost.  If you think it would be wonderful to be “swimming” in money, it wouldn’t incite a thrill to now know that currency is now worthless.

Free Breakfast!

Is there really such thing as a "free" meal?

Is there really such thing as a "free" meal?

The other day I was having breakfast with an acquaintance of mine at a restaurant in my hometown.  This restaurant is part of a national chain.  Though I  frequent this establishment rarely, he is a regular customer and is known by name.  After some polite chatter on the state of our family and affairs, we started discussing our breakfast.  I quite enjoy a good meal (just ask my wife).  And on this particular morning, I was having this restaurant’s signature breakfast.  The very well known “Grand Slam Breakfast.”  As you can probably guess by now, we were enjoying breakfast at our local Denny’s.  When I ordered this meal I was asked the simple questions of “How would you like your eggs?”,  “What type of toast would you like?”, “Would you like to substitute any of the sides?”, and “What would you like to drink with that?”  These are very simple questions, but when you stop to think about all the changes that you can make, you realize you have a lot of choice in the outcome of your breakfast.  You don’t even have to order the Grand Slam.  You can also have one of their many other breakfast choices.

The meal came, we ate.  I was quite satisfied with my meal, as was my colleague.  The eggs were exactly as I had ordered, and I received the toast, sides and beverage I wanted.  I left a 25% tip for the waitress (she was very kind and professional).  On the way out to our vehicles my friend asked if I had come down on the day of the free Grand Slam Giveaway.  I had not, but I had driven by the restaurant on my way to work that morning.  I had noticed the very long lines snakeing out of the building, down the sidewalk and around the corner.  He stated that because it is his routine, he decided that he would eat at Denny’s that morning also dispite the obvious inconvenience and long lines.  Nothing beats a free breakfast right?

Wrong.  He stated that he arrived at Denny’s at a few minutes past 7:00 that morning and got in line.  At this time he figured the line wasn’t that long, but looking through the windows he could see the restaurant was already packed.  He actually got into the restaurant to order a little sooner than he anticipated.  He figures he only waited in line for about 50 minutes.  He sat down at the table and waited for the waiter or waitress to arrive.  15 minutes later his waitress/server (what is the politically correct term nowadays?) arrived to take his order.  She looked haggared and worn down.  He asked her how it was going (just to make polite conversation), and she replied it was a “madhouse” as you can imagine.  Since he knew this waitress, and she knew him, he stated he would like his Grand Slam prepared in the usual way.  She said that would be ok, but the toast/bread he usually ordered was gone, and she would have to substitute it with something else.  He was slightly annoyed by this, but agreed to substitute it with something similar.  He smiled at her as she went off to the kitchen to relay his order.

While he was waiting for his food he looked at the scene around him.  Since he was a regular to this establishment he knew many of the regulars that were usually there.  On this particular morning he saw only one other customer’s face he recognized.  Later he told me that he had asked some of the other “regulars” where they were this particular morning and they replied, that they had gone somewhere else for breakfast to avoid the hassle.  His wait was much longer than normal, but he attributed that to the fact that the place was packed!  Since he was in no rush, he wasn’t going to worry about the wait.  He did notice that many of the other “customers” (can we call them customers even if they don’t pay) were impatient, and some of them were quite rude to the staff.

Thirty minutes later his meal finally arrived.  He smiled at the waitress and thanked her (something most of the others were not doing).  When he began to eat his meal, he noticed that something was different, it tasted different.  His eggs were undercooked, he was never a fan of overeasy.  They were greasy, and they lacked proper seasoning.  His bread of course as he already knew had been substituted.  The portions were smaller and the outcome seemed rushed, but hey at least they got his beverage right.  Like most people he downed his beverage quickly and it was gone before he had even started his meal.  He thought “Oh well” they will be around in a minute or two to provide a refill.  A refill that never came.  He decided to finish his meal quickly, and vacate the restaurant so the others that were still in line could be served.  As he was getting up and leaving a tip his sever came over to thank him for his patronage.  She also saw that he had left a pretty size-able tip on the table and thanked him for that.  He left feeling hurried and unsatisfied.

A couple of days later he returned to Dennys for his normal breakfast routine.  He walked in, was seated immediately, and was able to order EXACTLY what he wanted.  While he was ordering, he asked the waitress how the “promotion” was.  She stated that if they ever do that again she will either call in sick, or quit (her words exactly).  It was the worse day at work she had ever had.  She said that even though she served 10 times the normal amount of patrons, she actually earned less in tips than what she earns on a regular day (what’s the obligatory tip for 20% of free?).  The host/hostess was rushed, the cooks were rushed, and the supplies ran out more quickly, even though they anticipated the crowds.

Upon hearing this story I was glad that I avoided the hassle of a “free” breakfast at Dennys that morning.  Some things aren’t worth it even if they are free.  My momma used to always say,  “You get what you pay for.”

Now imagine if we had “free” healthcare.
